Tivoli Gardens

Founded in 1843, Tivoli Gardens is an amusement park and national treasure that is a must for visitors both young and old. The Gardens host a mix of exotic architecture, historic buildings, lush gardens, thrilling and nostalgic rides and diverse dining options. Tivoli comes alive at night with thousands of twinkling lights and hosts varying live music every single day. Hans Christian Andersen and Walt Disney both spent time at Tivoli Gardens.

The Little Mermaid

One of Copenhagen’s most famous tourist attractions, The Little Mermaid, can be found at Langelinje Pier. Unveiled on 23 August 1913, The Little Mermaid was a gift from Danish Brewer Carl Jacobsen to the City of Copenhagen. She is made of bronze and granite and was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale about a mermaid who gives up everything to be united with a young, handsome prince on land.

Kronborg Castle

Kronborg Castle is an elegant castle that has served both as a home for the royal family until the late 1600’s, but also as an active military fortress. It is known worldwide from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and its long history has made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Castle is a 40-minute train ride from Copenhagen Central Station.

Freetown Christiana

Freetown Christiana is a green and car-free neighbourhood in Copenhagen, best known for its autonomous inhabitants’ different way of life. It was established in 1971 by a group of hippies who occupied some abandoned military barracks on the site and developed their own set of society rules, completely independent of the Danish government.

Nyhavn

Nyhavn was originally a busy commercial port but today the beautiful old houses have been renovated and restaurants dominate the quayside. No. 9, Nyhavn, is the oldest house in the area dating back to 1681 and the design has not changed since that time. Hans Christian Andersen lived in nos. 20, 67 and 18.
